Singapore firms scout for investment opportunity in Gujarat

Singapore: Singapore's trade promotion agency will lead a delegation of investors to Gujarat to study infrastructure projects in the state and the possibility of investments, an official from the state said today.

International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, the nodal agency for promoting external trade and investment, will lead the delegation, and would pay special focus on projects in waste management, fisheries and private ports, said Gujarat's Principal Secretary for Water Supply, H K Dash.

"IE Singapore will study a wide range of projects when it leads a delegation to Vibrant Gujarat 2013," he said.

Dash today led a Gujarat state delegation and held a day-long seminar on business prospects besides highlighting summit and exhibition to be held January 11-13, 2013.

"We have held discussions on projects and business prospects with Singapore business community and expects IE Singapore to sign Memorandum of Understanding in January for participating in our projects," he said.

The Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce officials have also expressed interest in setting up ship-repair yards along Gujarat's coastal areas, he disclosed.

He said a commitment by Singapore's Hyflux Group to participate in a 300 million litre a day water treatment plant has become a model for Singapore investors to participate in more desalination plants in Gujarat.

"The Hyflux-led consortium's plant is a model for building more drinking water plants in the state," said Dash. Some 200 businessmen attended the Gujarat seminar, held on the sidelines of the ongoing four-day World Cities Summit.
